About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitoring quality assurance standards. The position serves customers by answering product questions, making suggestions, offering samples, and preparing bakery items—including wedding cakes—on request. It decorates cakes and other baked goods, maintains product freshness and department merchandise, and uses bakery equipment in accordance with company guidelines. The role also supports inventory, merchandising, food safety, loss prevention, maintenance, and workplace safety requirements.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and answer questions or make product suggestions.
Offer product samples and prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to help customers find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout, locate products for customers, and stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply control, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
