About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The position involves helping customers with product questions and recommendations, offering samples, preparing bakery items—including wedding cakes—to customer requests, and decorating cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery products. The Bakery/Cake Decorator also checks product freshness and quality, uses bakery equipment according to company guidelines, and supports merchandising, inventory, safety, food safety, and department operations.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming customer experience by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to customer questions with suggestions and recommendations.
Offer product samples to help customers discover items or products they inquire about.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products when customers request assistance.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply control, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
