About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. The decorator prepares bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests; decorates cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery products; and uses bakery equipment according to company guidelines. The role also helps customers find products and make selections, maintains merchandise and inventory, follows food safety and other applicable regulations, and supports store safety and operating procedures. The position requires the ability to perform its essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake-decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain product knowledge and respond to questions or suggest products.
Offer product samples to help customers discover items or try products they ask about.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to customers based on what they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply control, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
