About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The associate demonstrates the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position answers customer questions and makes product suggestions, prepares bakery items—including wedding cakes—according to customer requests, and decorates cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery products. It also involves checking freshness and sell-by dates, operating bakery equipment according to company guidelines, stocking and inventorying merchandise, monitoring inventory conditions, and following applicable health, safety, food safety, and store policies. The associate reports discrepancies, unsafe conditions, equipment needing repair, and safety or loss-prevention concerns to management.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment and answer customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions or make product suggestions.
Offer samples to help customers discover products they ask about or may enjoy.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to customers to help them find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and report items needing repair to the appropriate department or store manager.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
