About The Position

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitor established quality assurance standards. The role includes helping customers select bakery products, preparing bakery items—including wedding cakes—to customer requests, and decorating cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other items. It also involves maintaining product quality and freshness, operating bakery equipment according to company guidelines, stocking and inventorying merchandise, and following applicable health, safety, food-safety, merchandising, and loss-prevention requirements.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake-decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

A second language, including speaking, reading, and/or writing.

Responsibilities

Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of department products and respond to questions or make product suggestions.
Offer product samples and prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to help customers find products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer-service, labor-control, expense, supply-control, loss-prevention, maintenance, safety, food-safety, and associate- and customer-engagement rules.
Reinforce safety programs, comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager about items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, and notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
