About The Position

The Bakery Associate assists customers with selecting and purchasing bakery items while providing exceptional customer service and maintaining strong product knowledge. The role includes baking off pastry-case items, preparing bakery products according to written recipes, stocking and rotating merchandise, and keeping the work area clean and organized in line with food-safety practices. The associate uses commercial baking equipment and performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position in the Bakery department at Westborn Market in Dearborn, Michigan. The position reports to the Bakery Manager and Store Directors. Work involves moderate physical activity, including handling objects up to 25 pounds and standing or walking for more than four hours per day. The work environment may include exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, and some hazards or physical risks requiring basic safety precautions.

Requirements

• Use proper phone etiquette when taking orders or messages.
• Write legibly and read with comprehension at a level applicable to the position.
• Be able to handle average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or stand and/or walk for more than four hours per day.
• Follow basic safety precautions in a work environment involving some hazards or physical risks.
• Have the skills, aptitudes, and abilities to perform the position's duties proficiently.

Responsibilities

• Bake off pastry-case items such as muffins, croissants, and scones according to set times.
• Prepare parfaits, dips, and other bakery items by following written recipes.
• Use commercial baking equipment, including ovens, knives, and bread slicers.
• Stock and rotate bakery merchandise as directed.
• Prepare, package, and price products as directed.
• Assist customers with orders and with selecting and purchasing bakery items.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in accordance with food-safety best practices.
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a positive, helpful attitude throughout the shift.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
