Autonomous Vehicle Safety Driver
About The Position
Royalty Staffing is seeking attentive, detail-oriented drivers to join a client’s autonomous vehicle testing team. Safety Drivers operate autonomous vehicles during in-field testing, helping collect data on system performance and environmental factors while maintaining high safety standards. The role involves monitoring vehicle performance, preparing vehicles for daily operations, interacting with riders and company personnel, and submitting reports to support system and operational improvements. Drivers must remain alert and distraction-free and respond safely to other road users and unexpected events. Schedules are available Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday. AM shifts are available from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in scheduled options, paying $21–$25 per hour. PM shifts are available from 2:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in scheduled options, paying $24–$27 per hour. The posting also lists compensation as $21–$27 per hour.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of holding a valid U.S. driving license.
- Excellent knowledge of local traffic regulations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and on different types of roads.
- High level of responsibility and attention to detail.
- Clean driving record, with no DUI or drug- and/or alcohol-related offenses within the last 5 years.
Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous vehicles safely and lawfully to collect data on system performance and environmental factors.
- Interact professionally with riders, engineers, and company operations leaders, providing feedback and insights.
- Monitor vehicle performance and conduct in-field testing to ensure operational safety.
- Prepare vehicles each day for in-field operations, including safety checks and system readiness.
- Submit detailed reports to support system advancements and operational improvements.
- Stay prepared for the actions of other drivers and pedestrians and for unexpected events.
- Remain alert and distraction-free while in vehicles.
