About The Position

The candidate is responsible for teaching all phases of the Automotive Technology program, covering all eight areas of ASE certification for cars and light trucks. This includes electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, engine performance, engine repair, brakes, suspension and steering, manual drive train, and axle/auto transaxle. The role involves developing and preparing a complete course of study, lesson plans, assignments, and instructional aids. Additional duties include curriculum development and updates, student record keeping, student recruitment, placement, and follow-up. The instructor will monitor conduct, safety, and discipline during training, assist with student placement in the workforce, and participate in recruiting and evaluating students for the program. Professional development, including cooperating with outside agencies and staying current with automotive industry changes, is essential. Maintaining an active advisory committee and regular communication with business and industry are also key responsibilities. The instructor must monitor and evaluate student progress and accurately maintain program and student records. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and a post-secondary credential in Automotive Service Technology.
  • Current ASE Service Technician Certifications required: ASE Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1), Suspension & Steering (A4), Brakes (A5), and Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6).
  • Ability to obtain Master ASE Certification required.
  • Master ASE credentials in all areas of cars and light trucks will be required within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years of current experience in the field.
  • Evidence of ability or potential ability to instruct all phases of automotive service technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair domestic and import automotive systems utilizing safe and proper methods, techniques, practices, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Continue personal training and professional development to stay abreast of changes in the automotive industry.
  • Maintain an active advisory committee and communicate with business and industry on a regular basis.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress.
  • Accurately maintain program and student records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
