About The Position

The College of Engineering Technology is seeking qualified applicants to teach AAS degree-level coursework in the College of Engineering Technology. Depending on qualifications, subjects taught could include manual drivelines, brakes, electrical, engines, steering and suspension, electronic fuel management, chassis electrical, automatic transmissions, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, service area, or automotive machining. A focus on student success is expected. Office hours are required, with at least one hour for each class taught. Use of current technology is expected. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026 at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest. The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in automotive discipline, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Education with an Automotive Emphasis.
  • OR Qualification by Tested Experience: a bachelor's degree or higher out of the field, an associate's degree in the field, and five years of relevant industry experience.
  • OR a bachelor's degree out of field and seven years of relevant industry experience.
  • ASE Master Technician may substitute for two years of industry experience.
  • Required experience is relevant to the degree and experience. See Required Education.
  • Appropriate ASE certifications based on the content of the course taught in addition to electrical/electricity and maintenance and light repair ASE certifications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Auto Service courses.
  • Responsible for teaching Auto Service course objectives according to established guidelines.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Mitchel on Demand, and All Data.
  • Operates a university or personal vehicle safely while carrying out job responsibilities. Will authorize, pursuant to university policies and procedures, a driving record check, and will meet the driving authorization requirements through the course of employment in a position where you are authorized to drive a vehicle as part of our duties.
  • Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
  • keeping regularly posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional functions that have academic significance (i.e., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
  • Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an online environment.
