About The Position

This position can be filled as an Automotive Technician Apprentice II, Automotive Tech or Automotive Technician Sr. depending on qualifying candidate's experience. The role involves performing complex repairs and maintenance on Entergy-owned, leased, and rented equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, engines, transmissions, aerial systems, HVAC, steering, suspension, and hydraulic systems. The position requires travel to job sites, working with customers, and potentially supporting off-system storm response. Advancement within the role is based on meeting qualifications, experience, and completing assessments. The role is designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. As a provider of essential services, employees are expected to be available for additional hours and duties during storms, outages, or emergencies.

Requirements

• Must be qualified to use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify and correct issues with electrical systems, engine, transmission, and aerial systems on all Entergy owned, leased, or rented equipment.
• General ability (not expert) to read codes and perform function tests and interpret results.
• Must possess basic automotive electrical knowledge and have ability to use DVOM (Digital Volt-Ohm Meter) for voltage, resistance, and continuity testing.
• Ability to search electronic sources to find information such as equipment identification info, inspection and repair procedures, fluid capacities, and torque specs.
• Ability to accurately use task specific mechanical tools.
• Must meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Technician Apprentice 1.
• Must have worked for at least two years, and qualified, as a Automotive Technician Apprentice 1, or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
• Must complete within 12 months: all manufacturer computer-based training as assigned by Fleet Management.
• Must hold IFPS certification.
• Must become IFPS certified.
• New hires at Apprentice 2 level or above, must obtain IFPS certification within 6 months of employment.
• Must obtain automotive HVAC certification within 12 months through EPA approved source such as ASE or MACS.
• Will be required to complete manufacture bucket, digger and PDM training as classrooms are available.
• Must be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must meet all equipment weight qualifications.
• Meet all personal qualifications for Apprentice 1 Tech position.
• Must meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Technician Apprentice 2.
• Must have worked at least 2 years and qualified as an Automotive Technician Apprentice 2 or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
• Complete understanding of automotive electrical and DVOM usage.
• Ability to find and understand electrical schematics; test and diagnose sensors, switches, and other circuit components.
• Advanced understanding of internal combustion engines and emission control systems.
• Advanced hydraulic understanding.
• Ability to research and understand hydraulic schematics.
• Must meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for Automotive Hydraulic Technician.
• Must have worked at least 2 years and qualified as an Automotive Hydraulic Technician or have had equivalent experience in related work or have automotive or related certification from accredited institution.
• Expert understanding of internal combustion engines and emission control systems, and repair practices – demonstrate by ASE standards below.
• ASE certified in at least 3 of the following, or Master certified in A-Series or T-Series: T1-Gasoline Engines; T2-Diesel Engines; T4-Brakes; T6-Electrical/Electronic Systems; T7-HVAC; A6-Electrical/Electronic Systems; A7-HVAC; A8Engine Performance.
• Advanced understanding of hydraulic operations and repair practices – completed Altec bucket, digger and PDM training as Automotive Hydraulic Technician.
• Certified in Arc or Mig or Aluminum welding through accredited institution.
• Meet all personal qualifications of Automotive Hydraulic Tech position.
• Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment in this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks and meet experience, special qualifications, and physical qualifications for the Automotive Technician Apprentice I and those listed for Apprentice 2 for all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment.
• Lead or assist in the more complex repairs and maintenance of all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment.
• Perform diagnostic and repair tasks on electrical systems, engine, transmission, and aerial systems on all Entergy owned, leased, or rented equipment.
• Make all necessary and routine repairs to internal combustion engines, exhaust systems, and emission control systems.
• Make all chassis related repairs to steering and suspension systems.
• Diagnose and repair automotive HVAC systems.
• Perform basic cutting, welding, and fabrication.
• Travel safely to jobsite in Entergy vehicle and work with customers to complete tasks with minimal interruption to line activity.
• Support off system storms as the need is required.
• Assist with all tasks and development of less skilled employees.
• Expertly navigate manufacturer websites for diagnostic and repair information.
• Expertly diagnose and repair electrical systems, emission control systems, automotive HVAC systems, brake systems, suspension control systems, and hydraulic systems found on Entergy equipment.
• Take lead role when working with peer or subordinate technicians to complete tasks in safe and appropriate manner.
• Supervise/lead groups of employees to complete tasks within commit dates and deadlines.

• Company will pay for ASE certification and time involved for a total of 3 attempts per employee per test.

• If inside the 3 attempts for ASE certification, time will be reimbursed as well.
• Company will pay for welding certification and time involved for a total of 3 attempts per employee.
