About The Position

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing professional medical care for student-athletes through the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, including emergency situations. This position supports the overall student-athlete experience and contributes to Assumption University's mission of fostering student development through athletics as an integral component of a liberal arts education.

Requirements

  • Evaluates injuries which occur during athletic events, administers appropriate initial treatment, determines whether further medical treatment is required, and coordinates referrals to physicians or other medical professionals as necessary to ensure that injured student-athletes receive timely and appropriate medical care.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records, including treatment documentation, rehabilitation plans, and referrals.
  • Coordinate, submit, and manage secondary insurance claim forms for student-athletes and the secondary insurance company for reimbursement of costs associated with athletically related activities.
  • Apply preventive and supportive taping, strapping, bracing, and splinting techniques as needed.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and special events, ensuring appropriate medical supplies and equipment are available.
  • Maintain and monitor student-athlete medical clearances and required medical documentation.
  • Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, wellness, and basic health principles
  • Collaborates with the Strength & Conditioning staff to monitor and prevent injuries.
  • Serve as a liaison for the Sports Medicine Office and assist with daily operational responsibilities as assigned.
  • Prioritizes attendance at University events such as: Student-Athlete Candle Light, Hall of Fame Dinner, Athletics Awards Night, Orientation, Graduation, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Athletics Administration.
