About The Position

The Town of Fuquay-Varina is seeking applicants for the position of Athletic Aide I (Scorekeeper) and Athletic Aide II (Senior Scorekeeper). This role involves supporting community recreation department athletics, including scorekeeping for youth and adult league games, maintaining facilities, and enforcing policies. The position requires knowledge of sports rules, customer service skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. A criminal history record check is required for this position due to working with individuals under 18 years of age.

Requirements

• Reliable transportation.
• Must be 15 years of age (Athletic Aide I).
• Valid NC Driver’s License (Athletic Aide II).
• Must be 16 years of age (Athletic Aide II).
• Customer service experience (Athletic Aide II).
• Strong knowledge of sports, scorekeeping, and league rules (Athletic Aide II).
• Ability to work 10-25hrs per week (Nights/Weekends required).
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to carry sports equipment to fields.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience in community or group recreation in athletics, as an administrator, coach, scorekeeper, or participant (Athletic Aide I).
• Experience in score keeping for baseball, softball, volleyball, and/or basketball (Athletic Aide II).
• Some experience in community sports activities (Athletic Aide II).
• Some supervisory experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics preferred (Athletic Aide II).

Responsibilities

• Score-keeping youth and adult league games.
• Handling public inquiries and maintaining a clean and safe facility.
• Identifying and correcting unsafe situations and work hazards.
• Carrying out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with department and Town policies and procedures.
• Helping set up and take down equipment for games.
• Keeping score for youth sports leagues, running a scoreboard.
• Serving as the senior scorekeeper when paired with an Athletic Aide I, handling difficult situations in the absence of Athletic Aide III.
• Assisting in setting up gyms and fields for league play.
• Filling out accident report forms and incident report forms.
• Filling out results forms and playing time sheets.
• Communicating issues and problems to Athletic Aide III's, full-time Athletic staff, and emergency personnel.
• Enforcing Town of Fuquay-Varina policies.
• Providing routine information on departmental policies, procedures, and services.
• Performing other job-related tasks as required.
