Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 plus year of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • 1 plus year of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM- 5:30 PM or until last patient leaves, Friday 7:30 am to 12:00 pm or until last patient leaves
  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

Nice To Haves

  • 1 plus year of experience working in a medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Knowledge of EMR (ECW)
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in/out patients
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information
  • Collect outstanding balances, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances
  • Check patients out and schedule future appointments
  • File, Fax and maintain medical records
  • Maintain a work queue list and complete any pending actions (e.g., referrals, scheduling appointments)
  • Perform general clerical duties
  • Meet the communication needs of the patient/family, practice providers, and practice staff
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Greet patients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Direct patients to appropriate areas
  • Check-in all patients, give patient medical forms to complete and update if needed
  • Collect payments, print receipts, and post payments
  • Scan and file patients’ information if needed
  • Reconcile cash drawer daily and send deposits to Department Manager
  • Follow the Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Retrieve and sort mail into appropriate boxes
  • Sort and document any returned mail
  • Maintain a good working relationship with practice staff members
  • Perform all other duties assigned
  • Meet dress code standards: appearance is neat and clean
  • Complete annual/monthly education requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled
  • Complete work in a timely manner
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Ensure patient confidentiality
  • Comply with all practice policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
