About The Position

Optum NY/NJ is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join their team in Bayshore, NY. The Allergy and Asthma Care of New York, part of Optum, is looking for a friendly, patient-focused, and detail-oriented Associate Patient Care Coordinator. This role is responsible for completing set processes and protocols, working cooperatively with the care team to support the organization's vision and mission, delivering excellent customer service, and adhering to Lean processes. The position also supports the team in meeting financial, clinical, and service goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to use multiple web applications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to travel to other local offices if needed and have reliable transportation
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and conduct check-in and check-out process
  • Obtain accurate and updated patient information, such as name, address, insurance information
  • Perform insurance verification on the date of service
  • Schedule appointments and procedures in an organized and efficient manner
  • Answer incoming and outgoing telephone calls promptly and courteously
  • Follow the Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Maintain a work queue list and complete pending actions (e.g., referrals, scheduling appointments)
  • Obtain patient signatures for required documents
  • Confirm and schedule appointments
  • Perform referral documentation promptly
  • Perform certain follow-up services for patients promptly and courteously, such as scheduling specialist appointments
  • Adhere to the standards identified via Sparq regarding Optum Employee Policies
  • Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Be comfortable working in a high-pace environment
  • Assure the continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
  • Provide effective communication to patient/family team members and other health care professionals as evidenced by documentation, case conferences, communication notes, and evaluations
  • Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
  • Keep abreast of current medical requirements relevant to the position, including maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by all HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to cover other practices as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
