About The Position

Queens Herald Church (QHC), a Chinese and English-speaking Christian & Missionary Alliance church in Fresh Meadows, Queens, New York, is seeking a full-time Associate Pastor to assist the Chinese Ministry Lead Pastor in leading the Chinese ministries, with particular emphasis on the Cantonese-speaking congregation. The Associate Pastor supports the Chinese Ministry team with pastoral and administrative duties and works closely with the Chinese Ministry Lead Pastor, pastoral staff, and office staff. The role includes preaching and teaching at Sunday services on a schedule set by the Chinese Ministry Lead Pastor; overseeing Cantonese-speaking small groups and training and discipling their leaders; providing pastoral care through visitation and counseling; planning and implementing outreach and evangelism, including Chinese youth and college ministries; and helping expand the prayer ministry and develop and train prayer leaders. The candidate should demonstrate a clear vocational calling to pastoral ministry, sound theological knowledge, spiritual maturity, integrity, compassionate pastoral care, and the ability to preach, teach, and lead in prayer. The Associate Pastor must uphold the Christian & Missionary Alliance Statement of Faith and be committed to accreditation and licensing with the C&MA. The position reports to the Chinese Ministry Lead Pastor and is also amenable to the Metro District C&MA District Superintendent. Compensation is $60,000–$64,000 per annum, with competitive benefits for the area.

Requirements

Bachelor of Divinity or equivalent.
At least 3–5 years of pastoral experience.
Fluent spoken Cantonese and written Chinese, and able to communicate in English.
Sound theological knowledge and training, with the ability to preach and teach God’s Word and lead in prayer.
Clear vocational calling into pastoral ministry.
Trustworthiness, high moral character, and integrity.
Compassion, empathy, and wisdom in pastoral care.
A testimony of inner health and character suited to the demands of ministry, including an intimate relationship with God and ongoing personal and spiritual growth.
If married, family and marriage are in order.
Effective and strong communication skills.
Track record of self-leadership that can transfer into team leadership.
Self-awareness and self-care.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Sensitivity to the church’s ethnic-specific and multigenerational needs.
Commitment to being accredited and licensed with the C&MA.

Responsibilities

Assist the Chinese Ministry Lead Pastor in leading the Chinese ministries, with an emphasis on the Cantonese-speaking congregation.
Support the Chinese Ministry team in its overall pastoral and administrative duties.

Oversee Cantonese-speaking small groups and train and disciple small-group leaders.
