About The Position

Walmart is seeking an Associate Optometrist to serve as the clinical partner to the Vision Center Manager and help advance affordable eyecare. The optometrist provides evidence-based vision care, conducts comprehensive eye examinations, diagnoses and treats vision conditions within the state optometry scope of practice, and coordinates patient care with other healthcare professionals. The role also contributes to Vision Center operations and business objectives, supports and develops staff, maintains regulatory compliance, and delivers an integrated, high-quality patient and customer experience. The Vision Center is described as fast-paced and equipped with resources and technology, including digital phoropters, EMR, and Maestro OCT/retinal camera equipment.

Requirements

Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school.
Optometrist license in good standing in the state of practice.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a post-graduate year one (PGY-1) in an area of emphasis, such as family practice, low vision care, pediatric or geriatric optometry, or ocular disease.

Responsibilities

Provide evidence-based vision care, recommend and prescribe medications and treatments, deliver routine vision care, educate patients and store associates on eye health, recommend follow-up, coordinate care with other health professionals, make referrals, and follow up on outstanding patient information and diagnostics.
Review medical histories and perform comprehensive eye examinations, including assessments of visual acuity, visual function, and eye health; diagnose vision defects and conditions; prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids; order and interpret diagnostic tests; provide additional vision treatment as needed; develop treatment plans; refer patients to community providers when appropriate; and document patient history, assessment, and treatment plans promptly.
Analyze business objectives and customer needs; develop and implement business strategies and plans; analyze costs and forecasts; determine resource needs; evaluate operations and outcomes; identify improvement opportunities; promote a customer-focused environment; and support continuous learning.
Deliver exceptional service in patient interactions; maintain patient information accurately, promptly, and confidentially in Vision Center systems; assist Vision Center staff with best practices and procedures; ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations and Walmart guidelines; perform administrative and retail tasks as needed; and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support integrated patient care.
Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain, and engage a skilled workforce, including recruiting, selecting, developing, mentoring, and supporting succession planning for talent.
Promote company standards of integrity and ethics, establish consequences for violations or noncompliance, and support the Open Door Policy.
Develop internal and external partnerships and networks, lead community outreach and involvement initiatives, and engage stakeholders in business plans and initiatives.
Adopt new equipment technology and advanced instrumentation.
