About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. Under direct supervision, provides accurate and timely solutions to end-user computer and networking problems. Performs restorative and maintenance actions either remotely or at the end user’s location to resolve problems, using basic troubleshooting and technical skills. Responds to situations where standard procedures have failed in isolating or fixing problem equipment, software installations, or configuration changes. This position participates in a group 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year on-call rotation where each member of the group takes call for 1 week at a time.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Information Technology or related field of study - OR - High School diploma plus 2 years of experience in IT support functions or IT technical-related experience.
  • Required to be on-call and to respond immediately to trouble calls outside of general work hours.
  • Work occasionally may require in excess of eight hours per day.
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field of study.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Certifications: A+, Network+, MCP, CCNA
  • Rotating weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Workload pressure will regularly subject the incumbent to moderate to high job-related stress

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first line of support for user issues in the local and remote Regional Centers by being available to answer questions, document and fix or escalate issues, and acts as a liaison between Regional Programs and IT.
  • In coordination with IT, informatics, and application vendors, performs knowledge transfer of predefined and accepted workflows to end users. Will be responsible for assisting in new user/employee training, ongoing refresher and optimization training, new feature/version training, and remedial training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
