About The Position

The Associate I, Retail Sales Cashier provides exceptional customer service by greeting customers warmly, responding to inquiries professionally and promptly, assisting with questions and purchases, and completing fast, accurate transactions. The role operates a computer-based point-of-sale (POS) system, verifies till counts, and maintains a balanced cash drawer. Cash handling skills are highly preferred.

The cashier supports Goodwill’s mission by inviting customers to round up their transactions and explaining the mission the initiative supports. The position also helps keep the POS area, sales floor, and restrooms clean, safe, organized, and well stocked; follows retail center policies and safety procedures; completes opening and closing tasks; and may cross-train or provide backup in other departments. Duties may include additional responsibilities as required.

This is a part-time position with a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary. The posted pay is $16.51 per hour. The position requires prolonged standing, bending, and lifting, and includes other physical activities described in the job posting.

Requirements

• Accurately handle numbers and general calculations and understand the value of coins and U.S. currency.
• Use basic math, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
• Operate a computer-based cash register and credit card machine.
• Withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting for up to eight hours per day.
• Have color vision for accurate transactions.
• Work a varied schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays, with occasional overtime as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of retail sales or cash handling experience preferred.
• Strong cash handling skills highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify till counts, process accurate cashier transactions, and maintain a balanced cash drawer using a computer-based POS system.
• Encourage customers to round up transactions and share information about the mission the initiative supports.
• Provide excellent customer service in keeping with company values.
• Assist customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
• Complete opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized sales floor by cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking items up from the floor, putting away products from racks, carts, or baskets, and returning unwanted or returned items to their proper place.
• Keep the POS area, sales floor, and restrooms safe, clean, organized, and well stocked.
• Make customer delight/power hour calls over the intercom to organize and clean the sales floor.
• Follow retail center policies and procedures.
• Follow safety processes and procedures to help provide a safe working environment for employees and customers.
• Cross-train in other departments or areas and act as backup as required.
• Perform additional duties as required.
