About The Position

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Surgical Pathology Subspecialty including Thoracic Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology or other surgical pathology subspecialities. Prior physician leadership or administrative experience is preferred. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. The successful candidate will be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology and eligible to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania. Rank and remuneration will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Requirements

• M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
• Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology.
• Eligible to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
• Expertise in Surgical Pathology Subspecialty including Thoracic Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology or other surgical pathology subspecialities.
• National recognition for their professional contributions.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
• Significant experience overseeing large teams while fostering the growth and career development of junior pathologists.

Responsibilities

• Providing strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the Division of Anatomic Pathology, advancing the division’s academic mission while ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.
• Maintain excellence in clinical practice through oversight of quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and laboratory operations, with strict adherence to CLIA and CAP standards.
• Lead the development and implementation of innovative Anatomic Pathology programs, technologies, and initiatives that align with institutional priorities and support continued growth.
• Serve as a key leader on the Executive Pathology Committee, contributing to the integration, coordination, and oversight of Anatomic Pathology services across the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
• Playing a pivotal role in advancing the institution’s research and academic mission.
• Consistent with the selected academic appointment series, the individual will contribute as a research collaborator or serve as a leader of clinically oriented research programs.
• Leveraging the rich collaborative environment of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the candidate will be expected to champion faculty scholarship, strengthen translational and clinical research efforts, cultivate interdisciplinary collaborations, support grant development and funding opportunities, and maintain a nationally recognized scholarly portfolio through publications, presentations, and academic leadership activities.
