About The Position

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, term (clinical-track) faculty position to support the clinical education of professional students in veterinary medicine and surgery. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to teach throughout all four years of the veterinary curriculum as a member of the Surgery, Anesthesia, and Community Outreach team. Primary efforts will focus on didactic and laboratory surgical teaching, patient care, course organization and development, and outcomes assessment. This position will also support clinical skill development in the Clinical Skills laboratory. Some educational responsibilities occur after standard business hours and after-hours obligations are shared with another faculty member. The remaining efforts will be in collaborative clinical and educational research activities and institutional service. The percentage effort associated with each professional obligation will be determined by mutual agreement between the candidate and the Department Chair of VCS. The department is seeking an individual with a collegial, collaborative philosophy and dedication to participate in all levels of student and technician education. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, innovative, adaptable, team-orientated, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Requirements

DVM or equivalent degree
Three years of clinical practice experience in an academic, private practice, or shelter setting
State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

Documented post-graduate training experiences in surgical procedures commonly performed in general practice or in shelter organizations
Experience with basic surgery skills in academic, private practice, or shelter settings
Knowledge of current AAHA Anesthesia Guidelines
Experience with small animal primary patient care including pre- and post-operative care management and managing medical or surgical complications in clinical patients
Documented excellence in compassionate patient care
Collegial interactions with colleagues and team members
Additional years of clinical experience
Documented surgical experiences in an academic, private practice, or shelter setting.
Documented experiences in didactic and/or clinical teaching
Documented post-graduate continuing education in surgery or shelter medicine and surgery
Advanced certifications (ex. Fear Free)
Board certification or eligibility in either an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or European Board of Veterinary Specialization (EBVS) acknowledged clinical specialty
An advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent degree)
