About The Position

The Classics Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with any research specialization in Classical Studies. Preference will be given to advanced Associate Professors and Full Professors. Exceptional candidates may be considered for the Robert D. Novak Chair of Western Civilization and Culture. The person hired will contribute to our highly successful general education curriculum by regularly teaching a large-enrollment class on Greek and Roman mythology as well as other courses in Classical Civilization and, depending on specialization, Greek, Latin, or material culture, at both undergraduate and graduate levels; the teaching load is 2-2. Preference will be given to applicants who have built an international reputation as a scholar, as well as a record of outstanding teaching, particularly in large format lecture classes. The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Requirements

  • Ph.D. and research and teaching record in Classics or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of accomplishment in research, teaching, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching, particularly in large format lecture classes.
