About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist. This role provides guidance on various human resource activities and manages complex HR issues within a designated portfolio. A key focus will be on fulfilling staffing needs, particularly J-1 visa processing for units within the Illinois Global Institute. The Senior HR Generalist will manage employee appointments and records, ensuring appropriate pay and status information, and will be responsible for data entry, report generation, and data integrity. The position also oversees job classification and analysis, assists with internal classification strategies, and provides expertise on job analysis and evaluation. Additionally, the role ensures adherence to HR policies and legal requirements through tracking, training, and internal reviews, and may develop compliance strategies and HR-related trainings for the Illinois Global Institute.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.

  • Working knowledge of University and Campus policies related to Human Resources, including but not limited to those listed in the Campus Administrative Manual, Provost’s Communications, and Policies and Rules.
  • Knowledge of ISTART visa application processing for international faculty and scholars, BANNER, HRFE, Cornerstone, JDxpert,I-9 Tracker, ANA, PARIS, and Webi or the ability to swiftly learn and adapt to multiple technology application platforms.
  • Working knowledge of University of Illinois business and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with human resources management principles, theories and concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Managing employee appointments and records, including the interaction between multiple types of appointments to result in appropriate pay and employee status information.
  • Entering routine and non-routine data, pulling routine and non-routine reports, and developing new reports as needed.
  • Ensuring accuracy of input data, resolving discrepancies, and considering long-term data retention and data integrity.
  • Participating in appropriate systems testing and providing feedback.
  • Overseeing job classification and analysis processes for designated groups.
  • Assisting with the development of internal-to-unit classification strategies.
  • Providing expertise on job analysis and evaluation.
  • Identifying out-of-scope duties and recommending title changes based on overall responsibilities.
  • Ensuring adherence to HR policies and legal requirements through tracking, training, and internal reviews.
  • Developing and implementing internal compliance strategies.
  • Providing expertise on HR policies and legal requirements.
  • Attending IGI-specific committee meetings as requested.
  • Developing IGI specific HR related trainings.
  • Processing J-1 visas for units with the Illinois Global Institute.
