Associate Engineer - System Planning

Energy Transfer•Houston, TX

About The Position

This role provides technical support for the design, expansion, and operation of Energy Transfer’s natural gas, hydrocarbon liquid, and alternative energy facilities and linear projects. The work includes hydraulic modeling, detailed data and system analysis, optimization, engineering design, and collaboration with multiple disciplines to support safe, reliable, and commercially successful operations across the asset footprint. The position develops and maintains pipeline simulation models, conducts steady-state and transient analyses, performs process simulations, and supports front-end engineering design and project estimating. It also contributes to system optimization, reliability and forecasting studies, contract compliance monitoring, and coordination of operational outages and project activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline; Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or Civil engineering is preferred.
  • For the Associate Engineer level, 0–3 years of relevant job-related experience is required; experience requirements vary by selected job level.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently while communicating effectively with customers and support staff with varying skills and experience.
  • Analytical ability and ability to review, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, alignment sheets, survey data, GIS data, and industry and regulatory codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications, including the Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pipeline network simulation modeling principles and practices.
  • Experience in a natural gas and/or hazardous liquid pipeline engineering role or equivalent.
  • Experience modeling natural gas liquids and refined products.
  • Experience with gas and liquids modeling software such as Gregg Engineering WinFlow, WinTran, or NextGen; DNV GL Synergi or SPS; and Emerson PipelineStudio or PipelineOptimizer, or equivalent.
  • Experience with plant simulation software such as BR&E ProMax, Aspen HYSYS, or UniSim.
  • Experience with pump, compressor, and control valve modeling software.
  • Knowledge of hazardous liquid and gas engineering principles, standards, specifications, and industry and regulatory rules and regulations pertaining to 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195 and related facilities, plus other industry standards, guidelines, and codes.
  • Visual Basic and Python.
  • SQL, DataParc, ParcView, and SEEQ.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain pipeline simulation models to assess capacity availability and support Commercial proposals and Operational needs across systems.
  • Perform transient and steady-state pipeline simulation analysis to determine capacity and scope requirements for new projects and compliance with existing contracts, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform steady-state and dynamic multi-phase process simulation using BR&E ProMax and Aspen HYSYS software.
  • Develop front-end engineering design and scope documentation and support production of cost and schedule estimates for growth and operational projects.
  • Lay out natural gas, liquid hydrocarbon, and/or alternative fuels gathering and transmission systems, including design of pipe sizing, regulation, pumps, compression, tanks, measurement, surge relief, drag reducing agents, and liquid handling facilities.
  • Analyze system-wide operations for optimization opportunities.
  • Execute system reliability, peak day analysis, forecasting, quality tracking, blending analysis, and fuel optimization studies and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Measurement, Project Management, Legal, Commercial Supply, Marketing, Transportation, and Storage personnel during proposal development, estimation, and execution.
  • Monitor proposed Commercial Supply, Transport, and Marketing contracts and facility agreements for compliance with existing obligations relative to quality, pressures, and volumes.
