Associate Director of AI Market Development

10x Genomics•Pleasanton, CA
•$206,900 - $279,900

About The Position

10x Genomics is seeking a technically fluent, commercially minded market development leader to build demand for large-scale perturbation and single-cell data among organizations developing AI and foundation models for biology. Customers include AI-native biotechs, pharmaceutical discovery and data science groups, and technology partners developing virtual cell and related models. The role requires understanding model builders’ data needs—including scale, perturbation design, quality, and consistency—and explaining to pharmaceutical discovery leaders how large-scale screens can support useful models and adoption of 10x platforms. This is a builder role in a developing market without an established playbook, suited to someone entrepreneurial and credible with machine learning and biology teams. The Associate Director will define market strategy, build relationships and partnerships across the ecosystem, coordinate with commercial, product, R&D, corporate development, marketing communications, and translational market development teams, and establish market insights and business-impact tracking. The position is full-time and has a base pay range of $206,900–$279,900. It is also eligible for equity grants, comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and an annual bonus program or sales incentive program.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in genomics, computational biology, machine learning, molecular biology, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • 7 to 10+ years of experience in AI-driven drug discovery, functional genomics, life science tools, or biopharma, including market development, business development, strategy, or commercial roles.
  • Working knowledge of single-cell technologies, CRISPR and perturbation screens, and how data feeds machine learning and foundation models.
  • Established relationships with pharmaceutical discovery, data science, or AI-bio leaders, and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and execute a strategy in an undefined market and work without a playbook.
  • Excellent storytelling, executive communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an AI-native biotech, a technology or cloud company with a life sciences group, or a data or tools company selling to discovery teams.
  • Experience structuring partnerships or data agreements with pharmaceutical or AI companies.
  • Ability to hold credible conversations with machine learning scientists and biologists alike.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the market development strategy for AI-driven science, focusing on large-scale perturbation screens and drug discovery applications.
  • Segment the market and size demand across AI-native biotech, in-house pharmaceutical AI teams, technology companies, and academic model builders.
  • Identify data requirements, use cases, and decision points that lead customers to purchase large-scale single-cell and perturbation data.
  • Develop competitive positioning and a point of view on where 10x data and platforms are best suited for model training and validation.
  • Build relationships with AI-bio companies, pharmaceutical discovery and data science leaders, and technology and cloud partners.
  • Shape and support partnerships, lighthouse collaborations, and benchmark or dataset programs that demonstrate the value of 10x data for model development.
  • Develop thought leadership with customers and investigators through publications, conference presence, and advisory relationships.
  • Work with the commercial team to identify flagship accounts, build pipeline, and advance large-scale screen opportunities through long sales cycles.
  • Bring customer and market insights to Product, R&D, and Corporate Development to influence platform roadmap, scale, and partnership decisions.
  • Partner with Marketing Communications to turn customer evidence into narratives, content, and sales enablement for pharmaceutical audiences.
  • Work with the translational market development team to serve discovery and translational customers coherently.
  • Build an insights engine tracking model builders, data purchases and public datasets, competitive offerings, and technology trends.
  • Brief executive leadership regularly on market signals and strategic opportunities.
  • Track and report impact metrics tied to pipeline creation, flagship accounts, partnerships, and revenue.
