Associate Attending, Supportive Care Service: Clinician-Researcher | Department of Medicine
About The Position
The Supportive Care Service in the Division of Supportive and Acute Care Services, Department of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Associate Attending level to join our growing academic program as a Clinician-Researcher. The Supportive Care Service provides expert, interdisciplinary care for patients with cancer experiencing complex physical, psychological, social, and existential challenges related to their illness and treatment. Our clinicians have expertise in pain and symptom management, communication and decision-making, goals-of-care discussions, and support for patients and families facing complex medical decisions. We work closely with colleagues across MSK, including Psychiatry, Social Work, Integrative Medicine, Chaplaincy, and other supportive services. This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity for a clinician-investigator to develop and advance a program of research in supportive oncology. The position will include a joint clinical and academic role with the Department of Psychiatry, with approximately 65% protected effort dedicated to research, 25% clinical effort, and 10% academic/leadership activities. The successful candidate will have substantial opportunity to shape their research program and pursue collaborative and interdisciplinary scholarship across Supportive Care, Psychiatry, Integrative Medicine, and other areas of MSK. Opportunities may include mentorship of junior faculty and trainees, development of collaborative research initiatives, and participation in emerging areas of supportive oncology research.
Requirements
- Board certified in primary specialty (Psychiatry and/or other specialty).
- Board certified/board eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM).
- Completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in HPM.
- Prior academic appointments at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.
- Strong publication record.
- Significant clinical or research experience to be appointed to the rank of Associate Attending.
- Superb clinical, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Strong commitment to academic medicine, mentorship, and scholarly activity.
Nice To Haves
- An academic appointment at Weill Cornell Medical College at the level of Associate Professor of Medicine/Psychiatry will also be supported.
Responsibilities
- Develop and advance a program of research in supportive oncology.
- Conduct clinical and research activities within Supportive Care and the Department of Psychiatry.
- Provide inpatient supportive care (approximately 6 weeks per year).
- Conduct one outpatient psychiatry session per week.
- Participate in Supportive Care coverage responsibilities as needed.
- Mentor junior faculty and trainees.
- Develop collaborative research initiatives.
- Participate in emerging areas of supportive oncology research.
