About The Position

Chronicle Heritage is seeking an on-call Associate Archaeologist (Crew Chief/Field Director) based out of their Tallahassee office to support a large-scale Phase III mitigation project in northern Florida. This role involves advanced technical responsibilities, independent report production, and increasing involvement in project management and regulatory interpretation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex archaeological fieldwork and supervising teams
  • Strong understanding of cultural resource regulations and compliance requirements
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR Part 61)
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
  • Familiarity with regional cultural history and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficiency with mapping and field technologies
  • Direct contribution to project strategy and client deliverables

Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale and complex archaeological projects, often supervising multiple Crew Chiefs and field teams
  • Serve as Field Director, depending on project needs
  • Independently plan and execute field strategies, including survey, testing, and data recovery
  • Apply advanced knowledge of survey methodologies, site identification, and site recording
  • Evaluate site significance and applicability as a historic property under relevant regulations
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff
  • Act as a Safety Steward, ensuring compliance with safety protocols
