•$200,000 - $230,000

About The Position

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Technology Strategic Partnerships, for its Boston-based Technology Strategy & Planning team. This senior individual-contributor role leads technology vendor strategy and optimization across the global Technology organization, covering more than 125 vendor relationships and approximately $90 million in annual technology vendor expenditure. The role builds an integrated view of vendor spend, performance, and dependencies; develops and drives a prioritized sourcing and optimization roadmap; and helps Technology leaders realize measurable value from strategic supplier relationships. The position owns cross-Technology vendor strategy, driving improvements in vendor performance, spending, and the use of external resources. It partners with Technology portfolio leaders and Enterprise Vendor Management to improve vendor value and operational performance, with a focus on quality, spend, and risk. The role also identifies overlapping services, unused capacity, unnecessary demand, and emerging dependencies, then turns those findings into sustained savings and supplier-performance improvements while preserving service quality, knowledge, and flexibility. The ideal candidate is an analytical, self-motivated technology vendor strategist with strong financial judgment and a collaborative approach. They build trusted relationships, challenge assumptions constructively, and take ownership of measurable results across organizational boundaries.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in technology partner management, strategy, or operations, with demonstrated success improving vendor value.
  • Strong understanding of software, SaaS, cloud, licensing and consumption models, staff augmentation, professional services, Agile ways of working, and managed services.
  • Proven success developing and executing vendor strategies that deliver sustained savings, stronger supplier performance, and service improvements.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills in vendor spending, utilization, reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, business cases, and savings validation.
  • Experience strengthening strategic technical vendor relationships through scorecards, SLAs, business reviews, and corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of third-party risk, resilience, knowledge transfer, and exit planning.
  • Experience with global and offshore technology delivery, including distributed vendors and internal-versus-external workforce planning.
  • Strong executive communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence without authority, challenge constructively, and align stakeholders across portfolios.
  • Curiosity and learning aptitude, including the ability to stay current as technology services, AI vendor models, outsourcing trends, and third-party risks evolve.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, bring structure to ambiguity, resolve obstacles, and balance strategic judgment with hands-on execution and follow-through.
  • Proven ability to lead with self-awareness and emotional intelligence, adapt style based on context and feedback, and maintain accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated, data-sensitive industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously evolve BHSI’s technology partner strategy, governance framework, and operating practices so vendor decisions are consistent, transparent, and aligned with business and technology objectives.
  • Build a cross-Technology view of vendor spend, commitments, performance, and dependencies to identify opportunities and trade-offs across portfolios.
  • Analyze vendor spending, utilization, and capacity to identify unused services, eliminate waste, and sustain savings as demand changes.
  • Drive vendor consolidation and rationalization to reduce overlapping services, simplify the portfolio, improve transparency and cost efficiency, and strengthen strategic partnerships.
  • Drive workforce and sourcing improvements across internal capabilities, staff augmentation, professional services, managed services, strategic partnerships, and automation.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships through shared priorities, scorecards, and business reviews addressing cost, quality, delivery, risk, and supplier commitments.
  • Define Technology needs, combine demand, and support market assessments, RFI/RFPs, proposal evaluations, cost and value assessments, and supplier selection and renewal recommendations.
  • Partner with Architecture and Emerging Technology to evaluate AI vendors and sourcing options and inform buy, build, partner, or retire decisions.
  • Partner with Technology and Finance to guide annual vendor budgets and forecasts, resolve spending variances, and align investment with workforce plans.
  • Identify vendor dependency, concentration, continuity, knowledge-transfer, and exit risks, and coordinate mitigation plans as needed.
  • Lead vendor, sourcing, workforce-transition, and operating-model initiatives supporting Technology Strategy & Planning priorities; set owners and milestones, resolve obstacles, and drive implementation and measurable results.
  • Provide clear leadership recommendations and track Finance-validated savings, cost avoidance, service improvements, and delivery commitments.
