About The Position

The School of Art at Ball State University is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-line Assistant Teaching Professor of Studio Art. This role involves teaching undergraduate courses in 4D Foundations, Video and New Media, and other areas aligned with the candidate's expertise. The ideal candidate will be a creative teacher, a thoughtful mentor, and a collaborative colleague. The School of Art is a large department with over forty full-time faculty and staff, offering state-of-the-art facilities and serving more than 700 undergraduate majors across various programs including art education, art history, graphic design, animation production, illustration, game art/design, visual effects, and studio art. Students benefit from extensive facilities and close collaboration with the David Owsley Museum of Art. Ball State University is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Art and Design. Teaching responsibilities are located on campus in Muncie, Indiana. Candidates must have current authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in art, design, or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
  • One semester of teaching experience at the college level, gained concurrently or at any time.
  • Current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in art, design, or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
  • Engagement with contemporary art practices as an artist, designer, and/or educator.
  • One year of teaching experience at the college level, gained concurrently or at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses at all levels, from first-year Foundations through senior projects.
  • Maintain a typical course load of four courses (12 hours) each fall and spring semester.
  • Participate in service at the School, College, and University level as needed.
