About The Position

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary position is intended to prepare talent for a stylist role, with an emphasis on delivering quality professional services and supporting the guest’s total look. For the first three months, the Assistant Stylist is mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist and focuses on performance, guest service, operating procedures, and compliance. During months four through six, the Assistant Stylist continues assisting while beginning to serve guests independently. The role requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a willingness and aptitude to learn technical skills and product knowledge.

The Assistant Stylist contributes to sales and productivity goals, develops guest relationships, supports salon and store operations, and follows safety, sanitation, infection-control, and service standards. The role requires a cosmetology license and a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Cosmetology license.
• Basic understanding of salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable, and/or aptitude to develop skills in these categories.
• Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
• Basic ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional haircare and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Support a mentor Stylist’s hair-service and haircare-product sales and productivity goals through add-on recommendations, shampooing and treatments, blowouts and styling, color applications, foil assistance, cleaning and organization, pre-booking, and retail recommendations.
• After month three, perform hair design, haircuts, color, texture services, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable.
• Demonstrate products to guests to support sales and the guest-service experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, services, ingredients, and benefits during work time.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
• Build guest relationships through consultations and appropriate product and service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk-in guests, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded, total-store guest experience.
• Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to collaborate on guest service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, in the salon and on the salesfloor.
• Follow Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures and comply with state board guidelines.
• Follow service protocols and use booking and clientele systems to book return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager and maintain guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in assigned areas, including the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings and follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by following loss-prevention practices and providing exceptional guest service.
• Complete other operational tasks as directed.
