About The Position

The Assistant Stylist engages with guests, consults with them about hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary role prepares talent for a Stylist position and focuses on delivering quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. For the first three months, the Assistant Stylist is supported and mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist, focusing on performance, guest service, operating procedures, and compliance. During months four through six, the Assistant Stylist continues assisting while beginning to serve guests independently. The role requires passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and willingness and aptitude to learn additional technical skills and product knowledge. The Assistant Stylist helps achieve sales and productivity goals, builds guest relationships, supports salon and store operations, and complies with safety, sanitation, infection-control, and state-board requirements. The position requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and involves frequent movement and coordination, standing for extended periods, and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds continuously during a shift.

Requirements

Cosmetology license.
Basic understanding of current salon techniques for haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear-piercing services where applicable, and/or aptitude to develop skills across these service categories.
Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
Basic understanding of how to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair-care and makeup products.
Developed communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and build a clientele.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
Support a mentor Stylist’s sales and productivity goals through add-on recommendations, shampooing and treatments, blowouts and styling, color applications, foil assistance, cleaning and organizing, pre-booking, and retail recommendations.
After month three, perform services such as hair design, haircuts, color, texture services, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable.
Demonstrate products to guests and support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services and their ingredients and benefits during work time.
Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate product and service recommendations.
Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience, and establish collaborative relationships with peers and brand partners.
Explain the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
Follow company policies, procedures, standards, service protocols, and state-board guidelines.
Follow safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures before, during, and after services.
Use booking and clientele systems to book return services and events.
Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager and maintain guest readiness.
Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in assigned areas, including the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and break area.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings and follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
Protect company assets through loss-prevention practices and exceptional guest service.
Complete other operational tasks as directed.
