About The Position

The Assistant Store Team Leader (ASTL) supports the Store Team Leader in creating a healthy, positive store environment for Team Members and Neighbors while optimizing store performance. The ASTL helps lead daily floor execution, coach team members, maintain merchandising standards, and deliver excellent customer service. The role also supports sales and operational goals, employee development, and a Neighbor-first store culture.

Requirements

Strong passion for pets and enthusiasm for developing expertise in pet care and nutrition.
Ability to move, handle, and lift merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and access all store locations, including the sales floor, inventory stockroom, and cash wraps.
Experience operating POS register systems, computer scheduling systems, and inventory management software.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, standard math proficiency, and accurate documentation.
Ability to work any shifts required by the business, including nights and weekends, without a set schedule.
Strong retail supervisory experience and/or successful experience as an Assistant Store Team Leader or Shift Leader.
Proven experience in coaching, team development, and customer service execution.

Experience with pet care or retail pet specialty is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

Support the Store Team Leader in promoting a positive store culture by modeling company values, fostering accountability, and recognizing team members.
Assist with employee hiring, onboarding, training, evaluations, and corrective actions.
Address performance issues promptly and communicate through team huddles, one-on-ones, and appropriate channels.
Learn and advocate for pet care, nutrition, and supply options to help Neighbors choose products for their pets.
Build loyal relationships with Neighbors, local pet owners, and the community.
Provide outstanding service, including prompt greetings, enthusiastic engagement, knowledgeable recommendations, email capture, and carryout assistance.
Help manage and achieve store goals for retail and service sales, brand categories, labor costs, staffing, inventory accuracy, and shrink.
Maintain appropriate merchandise stock levels, sales-floor presentation, signage, and shelf stocking across departments.
Assist the team with task completion and ensure compliance with company policies through regular store walk-throughs.
