About The Position

The Assistant Store Director leads the Center of the Store, including Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer, and helps the store meet sales and profit goals. The role promotes outstanding customer service and contributes insights and recommendations to store operations. When the Store Director is absent, the Assistant Store Director oversees total store operations and guides associates and department managers.

The position oversees daily center-store operations, product quality, inventory, pricing, cleanliness, safety, and compliance with company standards and policies. It also involves training, motivating, hiring, and advancing associates; communicating sales goals and department performance; reviewing daily logs, purchase reports, and labor costs; and responding professionally to customer calls, inquiries, and complaints. The role includes hands-on tasks such as setting up displays and assisting at the cash register.

The work takes place in a temperature-controlled store, with occasional exposure to varying temperatures while handling products. It involves standing and walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

• Completion of the ASD Training Program or a similar leadership development program.
• At least 1 year of experience as an Assistant Manager in a retail, hospitality, or service environment, or 2 years of experience as a Department Manager.
• High school diploma.
• Strong customer service and supervisory skills.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to handle customer interactions with composure.
• Basic math and accounting proficiency.
• Comfort using computer software and financial statements.
• Strong retail background; management experience is described as ideal.
• Ability to stand and walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections to ensure product quality and compliance with standards.
• Maintain stocked and organized shelves, cleanliness, and safety; manage pricing and implement company policies to minimize merchandise shrink.
• Motivate, train, and lead associates; participate in hiring and advancing talent.
• Communicate sales goals and department performance to the team.
• Monitor daily logs, purchase reports, and labor costs.
• Handle customer calls, inquiries, and complaints professionally, and report matters to the Store Director when necessary.
• Perform hands-on tasks such as setting up displays and assisting at the cash register.
