About The Position

This is a general job posting for an entry-level attorney position. Assistant State Attorneys in the Children’s Legal Services are responsible for representing the State of Florida through the Department of Children and Families to ensure the health and safety of children and the integrity of families. Working with other Department programs and community stakeholders, the Assistant State Attorney in the Children’s Legal Services Division advocates for the safety, well-being, and permanency of Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the Florida Bar in good standing
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work as a team

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of legal documents
  • Legal research
  • Taking of depositions
  • Interviewing of witnesses to ascertain facts of the case and ensure Florida and federal legal requirements are met
  • Trial work includes case preparation for court presentation, examining and cross-examining witnesses, and summarizing cases for presentation for non-jury trials
  • Collaborate with investigators and case managers to gather the evidence necessary to support the legal action that is appropriate for each child
  • Perform various frequent and repetitive actions/duties, in use of computer programs/keyboard and telephone
  • Regular, in-office attendance is required
