About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Boston University’s College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on brain health and neuroscience. The position is part of a University-wide cluster hire in Advancing Brain and Cognitive Health and BU’s investment in convergent research. The cluster brings together biology, biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, health sciences, mathematics and statistics, and psychological and brain sciences to advance understanding of neural information processing and develop approaches to neurological and psychiatric disease. The department seeks scholars whose research complements other cluster hires, including faculty working in human imaging, computational neuroscience, rehabilitation, systems neuroscience, and neurobiology. Areas of interest include neural interfaces and implantable neurotechnology; neural decoding and closed-loop brain-computer interfaces; and AI for health, medicine, and science at the intersection of neural engineering and data science. Candidates may have opportunities for affiliation with Computing & Data Sciences and connections to BU’s AI for Science portfolio. BU BME is a large, top-ranked department with 39 tenured or tenure-track primary faculty, strong ties to the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and other Boston-area medical research centers, and more than $30 million in annual research activity led by primary faculty. Faculty have access to research and translation infrastructure and participate in interdisciplinary centers including the Biological Design Center, CELLMET Engineering Research Center, BUNano, Neurophotonics Center, Center for Systems Neuroscience, Photonics Center, and Hariri Center for Computing and Computer Engineering. The successful scholar will contribute to the University community through innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in its intellectual life. Boston University emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, academic freedom, free inquiry, and the exchange of ideas.
