About The Position

The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in human cognitive neuroscience. We seek scholars with strong quantitative and computational expertise and a foundational understanding of neuroanatomy and systems neuroscience. This position is part of BU’s major investment in convergent research, bringing together bold ideas, deep expertise, and perspectives from across disciplines to take on society’s most critical challenges. The position is part of a University-wide cluster hire in Advancing Brain and Cognitive Health, which builds on BU’s strength in Health Across the Lifespan. Spanning biology, biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, health sciences, mathematics and statistics, and psychological and brain sciences, the cluster hire draws on BU’s strengths in neuroscience, engineering, computation, and AI to pursue transformative research questions, advance our understanding of neural information processing, and develop new approaches to neurological and psychiatric disease. This position within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at Boston University will sit in the Brain, Behavior and Cognition program, which has strong ties to the undergraduate and graduate neuroscience training programs, the Center for Systems Neuroscience, and Cognitive Neuroimaging Center. The ideal candidate will be working in human cognitive neuroscience with a strong quantitative and computational background, and solid foundational understanding of neuroanatomy and systems neuroscience. The ideal candidate will also make use of the shared research infrastructure in the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center. We also note that there are numerous ‘big data’ initiatives within cognitive neuroscience, and this hire could contribute to the convergent theme of AI, Data Science and Computing. We particularly emphasize candidates whose research will interact with other hires in the convergent search, including faculty in computational neuroscience, brain-computer interface, clinical rehabilitation applications and animal systems neuroscience. Since its founding in 1839, Boston University has embraced a mission of openness and access, becoming one of the first universities in the nation to welcome all students of ability regardless of race, gender, or creed. That tradition shapes our enduring commitment to academic freedom, free inquiry, and the robust exchange of ideas. We seek scholars who will contribute to our community of teachers and researchers through excellence in innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in the intellectual life of the University. Boston University provides an environment where faculty and students work together across disciplines, perspectives, and experiences to advance knowledge and address society’s most pressing challenges.
