The Biology Department at Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cell & Molecular Biology of Aging. The position is part of BU’s investment in convergent research and its Future of Healthy Aging initiative. The successful candidate will study the cell and molecular biology of aging in humans and model systems, expand BU’s capacity to understand biological mechanisms that shape aging, and foster collaboration across cell and molecular biology, aging research, and population health. Areas of interest may include cellular senescence, proteostasis, metabolism, mitochondrial biology, genome stability, epigenetic regulation, stem cell biology, neurobiology of aging, and other cellular and molecular mechanisms influencing aging and age-related disease. The position builds on BU’s strengths in Health Across the Lifespan, including studies of aging and interdisciplinary research centers focused on population aging, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and the biology of aging. The Future of Healthy Aging brings faculty across disciplines together to investigate how biological, cultural, environmental, technological, legal, and social factors shape healthy aging, and the structural factors that prevent some people from aging well. The cluster aims to connect fundamental discovery, population health, and translational research to advance healthier aging across the life course and address challenges posed by an aging global population. The Biology Department is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research community with strengths spanning molecular and cellular biology, genetics, neuroscience, physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Its faculty study biological processes affecting health, development, resilience, and disease throughout life. The successful candidate will contribute to the university community through innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in its intellectual life.
