The Department of Physics is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program, teaching physics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring students across all degree tiers, and contributing to departmental service. This position is part of a significant university-wide investment in QIST, which includes the creation of a new quantum institute, cluster hires, and the development of new degree programs. The role aims to enhance the department's current quantum research capabilities and foster new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration. The department has a strong reputation for undergraduate education and research mentoring, a robust master's degree program, and participation in national QIST collaboratives. The department is experiencing research growth and is involved in new doctoral programs in engineering and computer science. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional research mentoring to students at all levels (undergraduate, MS, and PhD) and will align with and strengthen the department's mission and existing expertise.
