About The Position

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join their Primary Care and Health Systems Research team. This role is designed to enhance the department's capabilities in applied, system-embedded research and to support its efforts in primary care transformation, health equity, and community-engaged scholarship. The position emphasizes research leadership and scholarly impact, complementing existing clinical and educational faculty roles. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a research program focused on areas such as primary care systems, health equity, Indigenous-engaged research, participatory methods, and knowledge translation. Responsibilities include contributing to peer-reviewed research, securing external funding, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and health system partners, and engaging in Indigenous-led initiatives. Additionally, the role involves teaching and supervising undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners, with a focus on graduate-level teaching and mentorship. Service activities, including committee participation and contributions to research governance and strategic planning, are also expected. Opportunities for leadership roles within research networks may arise. Collaboration with communities, Nations, patients with lived experience, and external partners like the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Ministry of Health is crucial.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in Health Sciences, Public Health, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead an independent research program.
  • Provide evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and knowledge translation activities appropriate to career stage).
  • Hold a degree in a health care profession (e.g. medicine, nursing, social work, etc.), although licensure is not required.
  • Have experience conducting research relevant to primary care or Family Medicine, including participatory, equity-focused, or strategic patient-oriented research (SPOR).
  • Demonstrate experience contributing to applied, community-engaged, and health systems research.
  • Possess the ability to teach and supervise learners in an academic health sciences environment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Possess the ability to build partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Engagement with national or international primary care research organizations (e.g. College of Family Physicians of Canada, North American Primary Care Research Group, Society for Academic Primary Care, and/or TUTOR-PHC) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain an active program of research aligned with Family Medicine priorities.

  • Contribute to research governance and strategic planning.
  • Work collaboratively with communities, Nations and patients with lived and living experience (PWLE).
  • Build relationships with external partners, including the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Ministry of Health.
