About The Position

The position of Assistant Professor of Legal Writing is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position. Typically, the position requires the teaching of six credits each semester. The classes to be taught include Legal Research and Writing (“LRW”), Advanced Legal Research and Writing (“ALW”), Appellate Advocacy, or other legal writing courses as required.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • At least three years of prior experience as a practicing attorney or a judicial law clerk.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in teaching legal writing is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Six hours each week of in-class teaching.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Evaluate in detail student assignments.
  • Hold multiple individual conferences with the students throughout the semester.
  • Be accessible via e-mail for student questions and concerns, and to be responsive to the students’ needs.
  • Grade all assignments, culminating with a final grade for the course.
  • Comply with the applicable curve for final grades.
  • Work collegially in preparing the course materials for major research and writing projects every semester, with the initial planning, drafting, and editing of such course materials assigned on a rotation basis.
  • Adhere closely to the established department-wide syllabi and course content, especially regarding the due dates of major assignments.
  • Attend the College of Law faculty meetings, required University meetings, and the College of Law graduation ceremony.
  • Serve on law school committees, as designated by the Dean.
