About The Position

Capital University Law School is hiring a full-time Professor of Legal Writing to begin in August 2026. The role involves teaching in the Legal Research and Writing program each semester, including at least one section of the legal research and writing course for first-year law students. This foundational course is a two-semester, four-credit program covering legal reasoning, research, writing, and oral advocacy. The legal writing faculty collaborates to enhance the program. Beyond the first-year course, the professor will teach additional courses to further develop students' skills, potentially including Legal Drafting Practicum, Appellate Advocacy, and a new Legislation and Regulation course. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. Initially, the role is considered for yearly reappointment, with eligibility for a long-term renewable contract in the fourth year. Legal writing faculty actively participate in faculty governance, holding voting rights on most matters except tenure-track faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion. They are expected to work full-time at the law school and teach both day and evening-division students. Faculty develop their own course materials, provide extensive feedback on student work, conduct individual conferences, and hold weekly office hours. The position is located in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
