About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Texas A&M University-Victoria is seeking a student-centered teacher and active writer/scholar for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in English. The program is small and supportive, and the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching undergraduates. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in fiction workshops, composition, and other courses aligned with program needs and their expertise. Depending on program needs and qualifications, opportunities may arise to teach literature courses and/or contribute to the MFA program. The role involves holding regular office hours, providing student-centered instruction and support, participating in course and program development, maintaining an active agenda of scholarly/creative/professional activity, performing college and professional service, and cooperating with students, faculty, and staff. The appointment is for nine months with a teaching load of 24 hours (4/4) per academic year. The position begins in Fall 2026.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree or MFA (by August 15, 2026) in English, creative writing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Evidence of scholarly, creative, and professional activities.
  • Willingness to teach service courses offered by the English faculty as needed, including composition and professional writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Specializing in fiction.
  • Additional experience in creative nonfiction, narrative genres, American literature, multi-ethnic literature, professional writing, or online teaching.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate writers.
  • Experience supporting first-generation students.

Responsibilities
