About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Engineering to begin in Fall 2027. TAMIU, a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, is dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service, with a strong focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with a reduced teaching load to support research development. The role involves establishing an independent, externally funded research program in structural engineering, contributing to the development of the School’s structural engineering laboratory, and teaching core Civil Engineering courses such as Structural Analysis and Reinforced Concrete & Steel. Additionally, the position requires mentoring student research and senior design projects, teaching other Civil Engineering courses as needed, supporting recruitment and ABET accreditation efforts, engaging in service activities, collaborating with academia, industry, and government, and pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure when eligible. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The School of Engineering is expanding its faculty to launch the BS in Civil Engineering program in Fall 2027, with this hire and another geotechnical hire playing key roles in the program's development.
