About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) to begin Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas. The University focuses on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with a reduced teaching load to support research development. The role involves establishing an independent, externally funded research program in geotechnical engineering, contributing to the development of the School’s geotechnical engineering laboratory, and teaching lectures and laboratories in geotechnical engineering, foundation design, and slopes and retaining structures. The position also includes mentoring student research and senior design projects, teaching other Civil Engineering courses, supporting recruitment and ABET accreditation preparation, engaging in service, collaborating with academia, industry, and government, and pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure when eligible. This position requires face-to-face interactions on campus.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment)
  • Demonstrate expertise in geotechnical engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof
  • Ability to teach lectures and laboratories in topics such as geotechnical engineering, foundation design, and slopes and retaining structures
  • Ability to mentor student research
  • Ability to establish an independent research program

Responsibilities
