Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering specializing in Geotechnical Engineering to begin in Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service, with a focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with a reduced teaching load to support research development. The role involves establishing an independent, externally funded research program in geotechnical engineering, contributing to the development of the School’s geotechnical engineering laboratory, and teaching lectures and laboratories in geotechnical engineering, foundation design, and slopes and retaining structures. The position also includes mentoring student research and senior design projects, teaching other Civil Engineering courses as needed, supporting recruitment and ABET accreditation preparation, engaging in service activities, collaborating with academia, industry, and government, and pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure when eligible. This role requires regular on-campus presence. The School of Engineering is expanding its offerings with new BS programs in Computer Science and Civil Engineering launching in Fall 2026 and Fall 2027, respectively. This hire, along with another in structural engineering, will be instrumental in launching the Civil Engineering program, which is supported by strong regional demand. This position is part of a strategic initiative to hire 10 permanent faculty members in the School of Engineering starting Fall 2027.
