The Department of Russian and East Asian Languages and Cultures (REALC) at Emory University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Korean Studies, made possible through the support of the Korea Foundation. This position begins in Fall 2027. The research field and period are open, and applicants with backgrounds in the humanities and/or humanistic social sciences, including literature, gender studies, media and cultural studies, religion, history, anthropology, and sociology, are encouraged. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship is inter-disciplinary and inter-regional to complement the existing community of scholars specializing in Korea, China, Japan, and Russia. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research profile, teach a 2-2 load including survey courses and specialized courses, and engage in departmental, college, and university activities. Near native proficiency in both English and Korean is required. Applicants must have a PhD in hand by the time of appointment.
