About The Position

The Department of English and Media Studies at Bentley University is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in communication studies, starting July 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will have research interests that include humanistic, qualitative, and/or design research methodologies. Responsibilities include teaching existing undergraduate and graduate courses such as Multimodal Communication, Introduction to Communication Studies, Introduction to Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Public Speaking for Professional Success, as well as developing new courses. Tenure-track faculty have a teaching load of 2-2 for the first three years and 3-2 for the final two years before tenure application. Tenured faculty typically teach a 3-2 load, with potential for course releases for significant scholarly work. Bentley University emphasizes the teacher-scholar model, valuing teaching, scholarship, service, and community engagement. The department offers a range of courses in literature, film, communication, creative writing, and media production, with innovative degree paths and minors designed to complement business professions. The department also houses several key centers and labs, including the Climate Creativity Lab and the Writing Center. Requirements

  • PhD in Communication or related field, or other terminal degree.
  • ABD candidates will be considered, but must have terminal degree in hand by September 1, 2027.
  • Research that incorporates humanistic, qualitative, and/or design research methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as the instructor of record for an introductory course in communication (e.g., public speaking or an introductory/gateway course in communication, media studies, or design).
  • One or more peer-reviewed scholarly publications or juried works.

Responsibilities

  • Teach existing courses such as Multimodal Communication, Introduction to Communication Studies, Introduction to Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, and/or Public Speaking for Professional Success at the undergraduate and/or graduate-level.
  • Develop new courses to meet the needs of contemporary undergraduates.
