The Department of Construction Science in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University invites applications for two full-time, 9-month academic-year faculty positions at the Texas A&M Higher Education Center in McAllen, Texas. Appointments are at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level or Associate Professor level, with tenure review upon hire for Associate Professor. The target start date is Fall 2027. The positions will support the department’s academic and research programs at the McAllen campus. The department’s primary hiring goal is to appoint qualified candidates at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, though candidates with outstanding teaching, externally funded research, and professional service records may be considered for Associate Professor. Faculty will teach primarily at the undergraduate level, contribute to scholarly work in construction, integrate research and education to promote students’ lifelong learning, and engage in professional service, including industry outreach. The successful candidate will develop and grow a highly visible, nationally recognized education and research program in construction workforce development. The role addresses the construction industry’s skilled-workforce shortage and the effects of rapidly adopted digital technologies on training, education, recruitment, and retention. The faculty member will pursue research and educational strategies that prepare future professionals for an increasingly complex, high-tech environment. The Department of Construction Science offers STEM programs at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels. Its undergraduate program has been continuously accredited by the American Council for Construction Education since 1978, and its master’s program in Construction Management was among the first graduate programs accredited by that organization. The department’s doctoral program, approved in 2021, is the first in Texas and includes concentrations in construction management and safety, smart construction, and sustainable construction. The bachelor’s program enrolls students at the Higher Education Center at McAllen, and the master’s program includes online delivery. The McAllen campus is a teaching-focused campus that emphasizes high-quality instruction and student success. It serves a majority first-generation student body and has an average student-to-faculty ratio of about 12:1 across most majors. The position is based in McAllen, in the Rio Grande Valley.
