The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) at Louisiana State University seeks a tenure-track assistant or associate professor of meteorology. All areas of specialization will be considered, with preference for candidates interested in applying their research to coastal contexts, particularly tropical cyclone dynamics, mesoscale storm systems, artificial intelligence applications, and/or air quality. The successful candidate is expected to establish a productive, externally funded research program and demonstrate the potential to teach in LSU’s B.S. degree program in coastal meteorology and develop coursework in their area of expertise. This position is part of a four-faculty-member hiring initiative within DOCS, with an expected start date in Fall 2027. DOCS is housed in LSU’s College of the Coast & Environment and offers MS and PhD degrees in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences while contributing to undergraduate degrees in Coastal Environmental Science and Coastal Meteorology. Department resources include research laboratories, supercomputing resources, field support services, and access to a shared marine laboratory at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) in Cocodrie, Louisiana. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; advising students and serving on thesis committees; developing and maintaining an independent, externally funded research program; mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; publishing scholarly work; and providing service and advice to the University, professional organizations, and government agencies. The position requires a PhD in a relevant field by the appointment start and a primary scholarly focus in meteorology. Rank-specific qualifications apply. The position is subject to screening under RS 17:1826 and a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
