About The Position

The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B), Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Biostatistics. This is a 10-month appointment, ideally beginning August 1, 2027; an earlier or later start date is negotiable. Applications received by November 1, 2026, will receive full priority consideration, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will contribute to scientific and academic excellence through rigorous biostatistics research, teaching, and service, with special emphasis on machine learning and artificial intelligence. The role supports interdisciplinary collaboration and the development and application of evidence to improve public health. Areas of special interest include modern machine learning methods, artificial intelligence, high-dimensional data analysis, and novel clinical-trial design.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics advances public health through the study of health-event distributions and patterns and the development and application of statistical methods to human health research. Its programs include undergraduate and graduate degrees in epidemiology and biostatistics. The department’s Biostatistics Consulting Center provides study-design and data-analysis expertise for health-related research and supports interdisciplinary collaborations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and/or maintain a robust research portfolio.
• Pursue and obtain major extramural research funding for cutting-edge research in modern public health science, both as a corresponding principal investigator and as a collaborating investigator.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chairperson.
• Provide service to the department, school, and university, and externally to the profession and/or community.
