About The Position

BYU-Hawaii is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor for their Communication, Media, and Culture program. The position is full-time and faculty unit. The university, affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing. The primary focus of BYU-Hawaii is undergraduate learning and teaching, and the successful candidate must be fully committed to the university’s mission and learning framework.

Requirements

  • PhD in (Mass) Communication, Media Studies, or a closely related field is required.
  • Foreign equivalent degree from a nationally accredited institution accepted.
  • ABD’s near completion may be considered and must complete the degree before start date.
  • Applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.
  • Applicants must cooperate fully in and must pass a background check to be eligible to receive an offer of employment from Brigham Young University–Hawaii.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching requirement is typically 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters in some (but not all) of the following subject areas/courses: media and culture, communication theory and method, strategic communication, media writing, media, law, and ethics, political communication, or area of candidate’s expertise relevant to our student body and geographical region (Asia & Oceania).
  • Scholarship, creative endeavor, ongoing professional development, and university service are required.
